The Portrait Commission Protocol
Instead of displaying fees, this page focuses entirely on the philosophy of value, materials, and the steps of acquisition.
The LEGACY FILM PORTRAIT
A large-format portrait commission by Kandrzej is treated as a singular fine-art acquisition. To preserve the permanent physical value, rarity, and absolute privacy of your family legacy, each commission is executed as a unique, one-of-one piece under a strict museum-grade framework.
The Phases of the Commission
I. The Sitting & Production
Every portrait is shot exclusively on physical large-format silver halide sheet film. Using a century-old mahogany view camera and a vintage Goerz Artar lens, the process is intentionally slowed down to craft a quiet, character-driven study.
II. The Master Exhibition Print
Following the session, the film is hand-developed in the private studio darkroom. Exactly one master archival, silver-gelatin exhibition print is manually crafted. To ensure complete artistic authenticity, the master 8x10 film sheet is contact-printed directly onto museum-grade, fiber-based 11x14 paper. No secondary proofs, digital files, or unauthorized duplicates are ever produced outside of requested family sub-commissions.
For formal rooms demanding massive architectural scale—including 16x20, 20x24, and grand exhibition murals—larger print dimensions are custom-executed through a specialized scan-to-print process where the native negative is translated at an extreme archival resolution to match the tonal depth of the original darkroom chemistry.
The resulting masterpiece is mounted using acid-free museum cotton boards, custom-framed in direct partnership with our premier local milling partner, and delivered ready for prominent placement within your estate.
III. The Transfer of the Negative
To protect the absolute rarity of your portrait, no secondary proofs, digital files, or unauthorized duplicates are ever produced. Upon completion of the master print, the physical film negative is permanently sealed inside an archival vault casing and transferred directly to your family trustees for permanent, private custody and perpetual ownership.
Acquisition & Discretion
Because of the hands-on nature of darkroom chemistry and physical film, only a limited number of commissions are accepted into the registry each year. Base commissions begin at $17,500.
Discretion: To protect the security and privacy of our clients, a standard Non-Disclosure Agreement is executed prior to session confirmation. Likenesses, family names, and residences remain completely confidential.
Inquiries: Detailed commission fee schedules, regional/national estate travel logistics, and sub-commission structures are private. They are provided directly to patrons or their family offices following an initial consultation.
